(TGBH) Waddup world! Yes it is us again, THEE blog World order! We promised we’d predict this whole tournament, and we did. And here we are, the beginning of the end. The final match that started with 16 competitors has come down to the Last 2. I dont know about you guys, but im just not as excited anymore. John Cena’s final match really deserved better.
(PCM) I have also had the CD, seen a lot of his movies, and seen him live. I have even had the chance to meet him. The heel turn notwithstanding, I think this has been an overall success. He has had a good mix of the ‘one last time’ matches and the ‘for the first time' matches. I picked my choice for his opponent way back in the summer and it looks like my choice is coming to fruition.
(DSS) As someone who watched John Cena’s first WWE match live, owned his CD when it came out, and has seen his movies and shows…John Cena’s retirement overall has been a disaster. From a heel turn that never paid off, to a tournament for his final competitor plagued with injuries and disappointing results, I’m just ready for it to all end. Let’s not even get into the fact that he should have retired in Boston, and not a SNME in DC…

(TGBH) Stick around for the end of the blog for a special review of the tournament from the boys that put the B in bWo.
Pre-Game w/bWo:
The Last Time is Now Tournament
Round 4
LA Knight vs. Gunther

(DSS) Here we go. One competitor we all expected to win the tournament, and the other who shouldn’t be in it at all. Gunther was rumored to be Cena’s last opponent long before the tournament was even announced, so the entire thing felt like a foregone conclusion. Knight, on the other hand, is the 43 year old up-and-comer who is still looking for his big break, hoping to ride Cena’s coattails to the top. It ain’t gonna work, nah nah. Gunther is gonna stand tall at the end and finish out Cena’s career.
(TGBH) The fans said they wanted more LA Knight, they got it. Will it be the result they want? Probably not. But based on the whole bracket, LA Knight wasn’t anyone’s favorite to win it. Gunther was always going to be the Endgame to Cena’s Ironman, except he won’t to come out to win this battle of good vs. evil. How the mighty will fall to the Ring General, and to be honest, it could have been worse. Gunther wins, then we’re sticking a fork in it after letting it marinade for 7 days after Smackdown.
(PCM) This might be the most anticlimactic match in the whole tournament. Does anyone really think LA Knight has a chance? While Gunther was always my choice, we could have had other options to which made it seem less of a given. Gimme Rusev and let two bulls lock horns. Gimme Jey, even. There is a story there, and it could also further the current storyline with Jey.
Darkstar Shady's Pick:
Gunther by Pinfall
The Great Brown Hope's Pick:
Gunther via Knockout
PaperClip Mike's Pick:
Gunther by Submission
Final Tournament Thoughts
(TGBH) The lack of NXT involvement in this tournament left a sour taste in my mouth. Had this been planned ahead they could have had 32 superstars compete and make a truly big spectacle of it. Or they could have had the entire tournament in one night like the old King of the Ring PPVs. So much more could have been done with this if they didnt cut the heel turn short and shotgun the title back on Cody. Cena should have retired with the championship and they could have brought back the Universal Championship to fill that vacant Heavyweight slot. So much felt rushed due to panic. Or maybe the ESPN officials weren’t happy with the numbers and WWE had to shift course to save face. Whatever it was, this tournament suffered from it. And honestly, if this wasn’t Cena’s last match, I’d pass on it.
Who TGBH wanted to win: Solo Sikoa
Who TGBH thinks should have won: Zack Ryder
Tournament Grade: C+
(DSS) This whole tournament was a mess, and assuming Gunther wins, it was completely pointless. The few young superstars in the tournament didn’t get much. The surprise entrants didn’t get past the opening round. Sheamus had the biggest chance to surprise us, and end Cena’s career by taking the IC title from him. Carmelo Hayes got the biggest rub from the tournament, showcasing how talented he is in big matches. It’s crazy to think we’re at the end of Cena’s career, and I wish someone who hasn’t been in the Main Event picture could have closed out his career. But it is what it is. And Cena is who he is. He talks about putting over the next generation, but he isn’t here to make the next star. He’s either going out on top, or giving the win to someone who does not actually need it.
Who DSS Wanted to win: Carmelo Hayes
Who DSS thinks should have won: The Miz
Tournament Grade: C-
(PCM) To be fair, this tournament was not that surprising. I am a huge Ryder/Cardona fan and Ziggler/Nemeth fan and have been for years. But do you think either one of them was going past the first round? Je’Von Evans has decades in front of him; was he really going to beat Gunther? No. I said way back when Gunther beat Goldberg (You can read it on the site), that he was going to be the one to beat Cena. Let it happen and you have something here. This tournament was just as much for Cena as it was to build the future. Gunther retired a HOF’er in Goldberg and a future first ballot HOF’er in Cena. You have something there, run with that. WWE (thanks to TKO likely) has dropped the ball lately; let the Austrian Assassin run with it.
Who PCM Wanted to win: Gunther
Who PCM thinks should have won: Gunther
Tournament Grade: C+, mainly on how predictable it was
