"I'm headed to NXT, to rid the world of repulsive."
What up superstar! Where ya hail from and how ya doin? Storee Time with The Great Brown Hope Season 2 is off to a hot start and we're gonna keep the heat going ese.
Let's get straight to it y'all.
Welcome to...
If it's one thing WWE has always loved, it's having wrestling families on their programming. Multiple bloodlines (no pun intended) have been showcased and some have shined brighter than others. But if it's one thing I have seen in the decades I have followed this sport, it's that the next generation isn't always the best generation. And it's not to say the talent isn't there because it clearly is. It's all a matter of booking and being able to get over with the crowd with or without booking on your side. There's other aspects also like behind the scenes politics and personal situations. But at the end of the day, being the son or daughter of someone can help build a star or break a prospect.
Shaul Guerrero is the daughter of Eddie Guerrero and Vickie Guerrero.
Shaul Guerrero is a descendent of the biggest, most well known, and most respected Lucha Libre family in all of Mexico.
And it didn't take long for Shaul Guerrero to decide it was time to lace up her studded wrestling boots and take the reigns of the Guerrero family legacy. And off to the races we go.
In October 2010, Shaul Guerrero signed with WWE, reporting immediately to their developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling.
Shaul Guerrero would become Raquel Diaz and made her FCW TV debut only 2 months after signing with the company.
Raquel Diaz was gonna have to work her way up the ranks among an FCW Women's Roster that consisted of AJ Lee, Kaitlyn, Naomi, Maxine, Summer Rae, Paige, Audrey Marie, Cameron, Aksana, Caylee Turner, Sonia, Rosa Mendes, and Sofia Cortez, all women bound for a spot in the next crop of Women's talent. All women bound to be stars one day.
Raquel Diaz would work her first match tagging it up with Naomi in a losing effort against AJ and Aksana. Raquel Diaz would compete in tag team and six person tag matches as her teammates and opponents provided guidance and helped her develop her in-ring repertoire.
And in November 2011, after the use of her father's patented Three Amigos and her grandfather's Gory Bomb, Raquel Diaz added another championship to the Guerrero legacy by defeating Aksana for the Queen of FCW Championship. And the rest....was HERstoree.
Her rise to stardom would pick up even more heat, and very quickly. Naturally fluid in the ring, naturally gifted on the microphone, and with the swagger of a champion, Raquel Diaz was the perfect prospect in the making in an era that was in need of new female stars on the main roster. And as perfectly annoying as she was vocal, she was showing more than just flashes of greatness in and out of the squared circle.
And less than 30 days later, Raquel Diaz would defeat Audrey Marie to win the FCW Divas Championship. Raquel Diaz, La Reina of FCW and now FCW Divas Champion, had taken over the FCW Women's Division just like she promised.
As La Reina of FCW reigned supreme as Queen and Champion, Raquel Diaz would stack victory after victory in defending her championships against Audrey Marie, Sofia Cortez, and Paige.
But the stars in the sky had bigger plans for Raquel Diaz.
WWE was in the process of turning the current NXT game show style programming into what they hoped would one day become a third show and third option for wrestling fans who weren't very fond of RAW or SmackDown at the time. And Raquel Diaz was on the list of talent that was going to bring the FCW Women's Division to the next step in building their careers in wrestling and sports entertainment.
Raquel Diaz would make her WWE NXT TV debut on a pre-recorded episode that aired July 18, 2012. Raquel Diaz made a statement from the get go as she cut a promo on her way to the ring. Raquel Diaz would take on a familiar foe, one who was also just as hungry to make a name for herself. Raquel Diaz would take on Paige and claim the victory thanks to her trusty Gory Bomb.
Raquel Diaz had made it.
But as quickly as Raquel Diaz rose, she was gone just as quickly.
Two episodes later, Raquel Diaz wrestled her last televised match for the fed. Raquel Diaz defeated Audrey Marie and her short NXT career ended with Raquel Diaz 2-0 in singles competition.
Raquel Diaz left the WWE on her own due to battling with her own personal issues. Stating that the pressure became unhealthy and it was time to walk away from wrestling.
The pressures of carrying a family legacy can be a burden to some. How one handles the pressure is a battle of it's own. She said she could never be able to fill her father's shoes, and I'm sure no one expected her to. But she was always gonna be Eddie Guerrero's daughter, and it was going to be too much.
But looking back at what she accomplished, and how she accomplished everything comes to show that wrestling was in her blood. A young prospect in a great crop of female talent where some are still relevant today in the wrestling and sports entertainment world. She was a star in her own right and will be remembered for being so.
I'm sure Eddie would have been proud.
