Santos Escobar made his in ring debut on February 15, 2020 for NXT under his name Jorge Bolly teaming with Raul Mendoza as the team.......TEQUILA. Jorge and Raul picked up the NXT Live Event victory over the team of Lewis Howley and Sam Stoker (if those guys dont sound familiar you are doing the NXT wrong. Yes Boy you are.)
It wasn't until April 22, 2020 that the world was introduced to The Son of The Phantom. El Hijo del Fantasma would make his NXT TV debut as part of the NXT Interim Cruiserweight Championship Tournament against Jack Gallagher picking up the win after hitting the Phantom Driver. El Hijo Del Fantasma had won his first TV match and now had a victory to his name gaining momentum in the Cruiserweight tournament.
But the real storee came after his victoree.
El Hijo del Fantasma was exiting the arena cutting a promo in Spanish when he was attacked by masked men in an SUV. They attempted to force him into the vehicle but failed. These were the same masked men that had in weeks prior taken Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde.
El Hijo Del Fantasma would go on to lose against Isaiah Swerve Scott the following week, a familiar matchup that the Lucha Underground loyals surely popped for. If you know, you know. If not, go back and watch both. Easee peasee limon squeezee.
Tournament action amongst the rest of the competitors continued over the following weeks. But it wasnt until the May 20, 2020 episode of NXT where we'd see El Hijo del Fantasma in the ring again. This time against Akira Tozawa, who at this point was 2-0 in the tournament, but also a former Cruiserweight Champion and former 24/7 Champion. Tozawa wanted the gold too.
An intense match that had El Hijo Del Fantasma in a do or die situation, otherwise his Cruiserweight Championship hopes would go up in smoke. El Hijo Del Fantasma wins after the Phantom Driver (again) and moves on to the finals of the tournament. After the match El Hijo Del Fantasma approached Akira Tozawa in the parking lot and thanked him for their match. As El Hijo del Fantasma was leaving, the same masked men who had attempted to abduct him pulled up and beat up Tozawa like a bunch of thugs. This NXT parking lot is not a safe place to be.
The following week Drake Maverick would win a Triple Threat Match against Kushida and Jake Atlas to advance in the tournament. And I gotta say this was an amazing tournament that's only second best to the original Cruiserweight classic. The finals were now set, El Hijo Del Fantasma versus Drake Maverick for the Interim WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
This match had more than just a championship on the line. Drake of AoP fame was fighting for his job whilst El Hijo del Fantasma was fighting to prove himself worthy of competing at the WWE level.
A technical classic that isnt spoken of enough, these two really put on a show. Plenty of mat wrestling as well as the high flying acrobatics you'd want in a cruiserweight match. Drake Maverick put up a hell of a fight, but it was a power bomb on the outside that lost the match for Maverick. El Hijo del Fantasma smelled blood and took advantage of the pain Maverick trying to fight through. Maverick's attempts to survive told a storee of desperation. Every kick out caused Maverick more pain as much as it made El Hijo del Fantasma grow even more frustrated, showing a different side to not only his offense but his character as well. Suddenly the Masked Men from previous weeks provided distraction for Maverick who ran out and attacked both men, only to return to the ring and be taken out by a Phantom Driver.

EL HIJO DEL FANTASMA WINS THE NXT CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
El Hijo Del Fantasma was finally crowned king of the division, just as he had aspired and said he would do. A new king now sat at the throne of the NXT Cruiserweight division.
BUT WHAT IS A KING WITHOUT HIS GOONS?
NXT In Your House, June 10 of the year 2020, marked the end of one legend, and the beginnings of a new legend. El Hijo Del Fantasma made his way out to the ring to cut his first promo as NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Drake Maverick came out and gave praise to El Hijo Del Fantasma as well as praise for their match. Drave Maverick wants a title shot to which El Hijo Del Fantasma responded with a simple "SI!". And there was the signal. The klaxon that rang out and called in the goons. The Masked Men that had been raising hell in NXT ran down and revealed to have been aligned with El Hijo Del Fantasma all along!!
*GASPS IN SPANISH
The Masked Men revealed themselves as none other than Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde, the two men who had previously been abducted in the NXT parking lot in weeks prior to El Hijo Del Fantasma's debut. This new trio of thugs proceeded to beat down and break Drake Maverick. El Hijo Del Fantasma took off his sacred mask, revealing his sacred identity as Santos Escobar, proudly proclaiming he is the NXT Cruiserweight Champion and no one can touch him.
Santos Escobar was now a certified Superstar. A bonafide champion who was now aligned with two experienced and credentialed Superstars in their own rights. Here was now a new Latino movement, a new chance for Latino talent to make a statement on the bigger stages of their industry. Three Superstars ready to take lucha libre to the next level for the world to see. A new legend in the making, a new legend to be told for generations. A new Storee to be told.
