BROWN'S FIVE AT 5 / Vol.2, Issue 7: Oba Femi

Updated: Sep 5

Whats cracking yall! Hope you enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend. Shout out to all my construction workers of every labor and trade, you are the backbone and a pivotal part of building this great country.

With that said, you aint gotta get ready for the boom if you stay ready for the boom.

AND HERE COMES THE BOOM!

What is there to say about Oba Femi that hasn't already been said or witnessed. A former champion shot-putter turned WWE Superstar has evolved into the most dominant force across all three brands of WWE closed captioned television. Oba Femi is a product, if not THE product, of the WWE's Next in Line program. And it comes to no surprise that a man that can hurl a heavy round mass of steel has absolutely no problem throwing another competitor from one corner to the other. If you dont know you better ask somebody, and all of my sources say you outta know.

You take a strongly built talent like Oba Femi, combined with conditioning and in-ring training and you've got yourself the perfect Superstar. A Superstar that commands and demands not only your respect, but inflicts fear as well. Shiet, if I saw Oba Femi in a dark alley, im handing over my wallet and living to fight another day against someone my own size. Oba Femi has been nothing short of dangerous since re-debuting on WWE NXT television, going on an absolute tear as he literally ran thru the competition in the NXT Breakout Tournament. And like the winner of the same tournament the year before, Carmelo Hayes, Oba Femi cashed in his prize and become the NXT North American Heavyweight Champion.

and the rest is historee...

Oba Femi has done nothing but justice for the lineage and prestige of the NXT North American Heavyweight Championship. A lineage of talent that includes Adam Cole, Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Velveteen Dream, Roderick Strong, Keith Lee, Damian Priest, Leon Ruff, Bronson Reed, Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Carmelo Hayes, Cameron Grimes, Solo Sikoa, Wes Lee, Dirty Dom, Trick Williams, Dragon Lee, and now Oba Femi. A lineage of talent where some of those names have become Heavyweight Champions regardless of the promotion they compete for. A lineage of talent where some of those names are either contenders or are now heavily featured in the regular programming. And with every successful defense, against more than one opponent on some instances, Oba Femi continues to add prestige to the North American Heavyweight Championship. And that's not including all the title defenses at every NXT Live Event. Oba Femi isnt just a work force not to be reckoned with, but a work horse as well.

And with every successful defense, Oba Femi inches closer and closer to not only breaking Wes Lee's record holding reign, but also closer to breaking Carmelo Hayes' record 272 days of combined reigns. And with Oba Femi being just under 50 days of breaking both records, he's gonna need a body or two to SLAM!

DUH DUH DUUUHH!!

LETS GET TO IT YALL!!

BROWN'S FIVE AT 5

VOLUME 2 / ISSUE 7

FIVE MATCHES FOR OBA FEMI'S NXT NORTH AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

5. EDDY THORPE

Believe me, I like Eddy Thorpe. I do. But ever since his deciding victory over DIJAK, Thorpe hasn't really been doing much. As much as I enjoy and appreciate his character, the crowd just isnt with it. Not yet. The problem here is not Thorpe, but the fact that Thorpe's buzz after going toe to toe with DIJAK in a star making feud wasnt taken advantage of. But this is a chance to change that. There needs to be more eyes on Eddy Thorpe, and what better way to do that than for Eddy Thorpe to challenge Oba Femi for the NXT North American Heavyweight Championship. But not just any match, this needs to be an NXT Underground match. Thorpe has proven he can excel and use the environment to his advantage. And even in defeat, more eyes would not only be on Thorpe, but surely with a second great showing he can win a few fans over. Thorpe could be great for this new crop of NXT talent, he just needs another chance to show what he can do for all to see.

4. Je'VON EVANS

I doubt you'll be able to tell me who is more over than Evans so im not gonna even bother to ask. Already a proven high flying, gravity defying, dare deviling competitor, Evans has also shown he can go with the very best of them while having a roaring crowd on his side. But yet to be truly tested, Evans will eventually have to be daring enough to take the challenge of running through a brick wall. Evans against Femi at the next NXT Premium Live Event will be Evans' chance to shine not only under bigger and brighter lights, but an opportunity to bring his form of chaos to a bigger audience. Leaps and bounds ahead of his young age, Evans has an even bigger future ahead of him. To add a match against Femi in circumstances he is not accustomed to will do wonders for his young career. Stacking bigger names will add to his star power that he will take with him once he gets the call to join RAW or Smackdown. A loss wont hurt Evans, but Evans still gets to be part of what may be the most historic NXT North American Heavyweight Championship reign for a long time.

3. OMOS

OMOSAPIENS RISE!!

We haven't seen him around in a while, but Omos, at least to me and my fellow Omosapiens, is truly missed. NXT is moving to a new network and has two big shows planned for the Live premieres. And with the premiere being in Chicago, we're gonna need some big matches. Why not have Omos come out and challenge Oba Femi to a match for NXT North American Heavyweight Championship. Femi slapped meaty man meat with big boys Ivar and Otis, but Omos is a new challenge. Omos would surely tower Femi, and each man's strength would be put to the test in what will be a grueling match for both. But only one can be succesful. Does Femi cut Omos down to size or does Omos cut Femi's reign just short of breaking records? Femi might have to pull something out of the hat for this one, as the victory adds yet another big name to his ever growing list of triumphs.

2. RANDY ORTON

Week two of the NXT Premiere tour, is in St. Louis.

Oba Femi comes out and cuts a promo about how he is so unstoppable that he cut down the biggest tree in the industry. So untouchable that no one would dare step to him now.

Randy Orton's music hits.

Roof gone. George Jefferson.

A monstrous ovation surprises Orton and Femi as the building errupts in approval. No words are said. Femi throws down the belt and the challenge and the two go at it. Orton's slow and methodical pace will make Femi seem mortal. Femi is now going head to head with a former World Heavyweight Champion. A true test for a talent that the higher ups are surely high on and plan to heavily invest in his future for years to come. Femi may have to use the belt and get himself disqualified to get out of this one, or Orton may do as he always does and puts over another up and comer who deserves the rub. Either way Oba Femi comes out worthy of not only the championship he carries, but worthy of carrying both the NXT North American Heavyweight Championship, but the NXT Heavyweight Championship as well. Better watch yo back Ethan.

1. ORO MENSAH

These two still have some unfinished business. This match has to happen. Oro Mensah still has beef to cook with Oba Femi and it has to happen to get Mensah to the next level. With Noam Dar out of the picture, it's up to Mensah to hold down the Meta-Fort (see what i did there?) with Jackson and Legend. I'm a fan of The Meta-Four Superstar Oro Mensah and wanna see him get the shine he's been grinding to get since his days with NXT UK. A former NXT UK Tag Team champion, Oro Mensah is no stranger to carrying gold. And no stranger to fighting for the gold as shown in a match not too long ago against Ethan Page for the NXT Heavyweight Championship. And depending on when this happens, Oro Mensah, in my eyes, should be the one who ends Oba Femi's run. Oro Mensah could carry the division once Femi moves on to the bigger stage, creating opportunities for new feuds and matches between the current crop of NXT talent. Oba Femi holds one victory over Mensah, not to mention they got beef stemming from a televised backstage interaction. Oro Mensah needs to demand respect and admiration from the NXT crowd. Meta-Four could be one hell of a babyface faction for NXT while there is the opportunity to do so. Mensah could be the babyface that keeps trying to get back at Femi and eventually earns himself a championship match. As personal as this is to Mensah, he would endure punishment but continue fighting, earning the respect of the NXT crowd. Femi would hurl him around and suplex him into oblivion, but Mensah will not quit. A match I would book to end by stoppage after Femi rips Mensah to shreds. A babyface Mensah eventually returns to conquer the mountain that is Femi's title reign and wins the NXT North American Heavyweight Championship.

Or maybe Oba Femi holds on to the championship forever! WHO KNOWS!

Thanks for reading y'all, I do what I can do when I can do it and I do it the best that I can. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read these, I do it for yall and no one else. Thanks again yall.
